James Milne’s Inverurie office said farewell to Fiona Law at the end of April, after more than 23 years of service.
Fiona Law, who has lived in Inverurie for almost 30 years, has retired from James Milne to spend more time with her family, and especially her young grandson.
Fiona has spent the last two decades working for the firm in a variety of roles. She began working a few hours a week for Cassie & Co before it became part of the James Milne business, to fit in with her young children’s school hours. Gradually, Fiona worked her way up in the firm aided by Hazel Bremner, who has worked with Fiona since the beginning. Hazel encouraged Fiona to join the tax department and Fiona soon became an integral part of the team at James Milne.
Fiona said she will miss her colleagues: “After working together for so long, it will be strange not to see them every day. During the pandemic, when most people worked from home, our team needed to spend some time in the office in order to process physical documents being sent in by clients.”
With her daughter due to return to work after the birth of Fiona’s grandson, Fiona decided it was time to leave the office and spend more time helping to take care of one-year-old Theo.
“This last year has been strange and a shame not to see the whole Inverurie team every day, but we have all managed a very difficult situation really well, and the firm’s partners have been extremely supportive.”
Fiona has seen lots of changes during her 23 years with James Milne, not least a move to a more digital way of working. “The customer portal is increasingly popular, enabling people to organise their business and personal finances easily and safely. Over the last year, more and more people are moving towards digital records, to fall in line with new government regulations, and we have been supporting clients transition from paper records to online accounting.”
James Milne partner Michael Fotheringham commented: “We are very sorry to see Fiona leave, but understand it is the right time for her and her family. We never like to see a valued employee move on but wish her every happiness.
“Fiona has been an integral part of James Milne Chartered Accountants, and her support has been especially welcome during this very difficult past year.
“Sadly, we were not able to have a large celebration due to the current restrictions. However, we hope to catch up with Fiona to give her a good send-off later in the year if things open up this summer.”
