Clients welcome secure online workspace as part of the new normal

COVID-19 is expected to have a lasting effect on the way we work and do business

As business leaders decide what the new normal is for them – less travel and physical face-to-face meetings and more video calls – James Milne Chartered Accountants has seen a huge increase in the number of clients using its secure online portal to exchange messages, accounts and tax-related files.

“The portal provides clients with their own secure workspace, which they can access any time of the day to review, approve and upload documents,” said Michael Fotheringham, a partner at James Milne. “We launched the portal a year ago as part of our digital transformation strategy and while it has proved popular with many clients, there has a been a notable increase in the number of account activations since the lockdown.”

The portal is a cloud-based system developed with military-grade encryption that offers a far more secure method of exchanging important financial information than by traditional email. A single password protected login allows clients to access files, upload and download documents, post and read messages, and give electronic document approval.

Clients can also provide certain admin access rights to colleagues or grant full access. The portal can be used securely on any device – desktop, tablet and mobile – which enables clients to logon whether they are working from home, the office or travelling.
