An important part of any professional’s working life is ensuring
that their knowledge is kept up to date. At James Milne & Co.
we ensure that all our partners and staff receive suitable ongoing
training. For qualified members, this also means complying with
the now compulsory, continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.
We see the training that our staff and partners continually undertake
as being an important factor for clients as they can be confident
that our technical knowledge is kept up to date.
In addition to the above ongoing training, we are also authorised
by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) to
train CA students and are an approved training practice for the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
CA Students
We employ at least one student per year to undertake a three year
training contract. Normally the student will have completed an accredited
university degree and will therefore be exempt from the first set
of ICAS exams. Our students therefore have to sit and pass two sets
of exams, namely the Test of Professional Skills (TPS) and the Test
of Professional Expertise (TPE). Under the terms of the training
contract, the firm pays for the cost of all classes, exam fees for
the first sitting and offers paid leave to study for and sit exams.
The students also have to complete three years of work experience
before becoming a qualified Chartered Accountant.
ACCA Students
We employ one or two ACCA students at any time. The starting point
for our ACCA students varies – it may be straight from school,
or more likely, following some form of further education or degree.
Training is very flexible and study is undertaken through the use
of home-based study packs. The firm pays for all the educational
material, offers paid leave to study for and sit exams, and pays
the first sitting of any exam. In addition, our students are also
required to complete three years of work experience before becoming
a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant.
